Understanding the Eight Prayer Watches
There are eight prayer watches described in the Bible. Everyone is given a watch, and at different times and seasons your watch may change. Every watch has a purpose.
In Colossians 4:2 Paul says that you are to pray fervently. You are to be consistent in prayer. Yet, he adds that you are to do this with vigilance. This word is translated a variety of ways, but its basic meaning is to be watchful. Paul combines this with the command to pray fervently. He is saying that you are to pray fervently with a watchful spirit.
What are you supposed to be watching? You are to watch what is going on around you. You are to look for the distinct ways that you can pray for your community or city and your neighbors. It is watching and observing what is going on around you that you might pray fervently and consistently concerning these matters. When we are strategic we can go beyond just praying the scriptures to praying by revelation.
Spiritual mapping is observing what is going on around you that you might pray. It is paying attention to peoples' lives and the situation of your city or community that you might pray and exercise spiritual influence.

First Prayer Watch
Thanksgiving, meditation, deliverance, and divine visitation
The foundation of the night is a time to reflect on the day, thank God for His presence, and allow His Word to become established within us. Pray for deliverance and for God to confront darkness in economic, educational, religious, and political systems.

Second Prayer Watch
God’s intervention, protection, thanksgiving, and strategy
Intercessors stand against assignments of darkness before they are set in motion. Pray for God’s protection over families, cities, and nations, and receive His strategy in the darkness. A disciplined watch keeps life ordered rather than scattered.

Third Prayer Watch
Warfare, divine protection, freedom, and angelic intervention
The midnight watch is a time for seasoned intercessors to pray with authority. Ask God to expose wicked plots, break strongholds, free those in bondage, protect families and cities, strengthen marriages, release provision, and prepare His people to possess their gates.

Fourth Prayer Watch
A new day, restoration, resurrection power, and freedom
The final watch of the night establishes the course of the coming day. Speak God’s Word, break every hindrance to His will, pray for freedom and heavenly intervention, and ask the Lord to restore what was stolen. Watch for the breaking of a new day and the revealing of His glory.

Fifth Prayer Watch
Strength, healing, preparation, and declarations
As the day begins, ask the Holy Spirit to equip you for service and strengthen you spiritually and physically. Declare healing over your body, relationships, family, government, and economy. Commit your plans and work to God before stepping into the day.

Sixth Prayer Watch
Forgiveness, reconciliation, harvest, and fulfilled promises
This watch reflects the brightness of Christ’s love and the redeeming power of the Cross. Pray for forgiveness, healed relationships, harvest, wisdom, and advancement. Give thanks that Christ delivered us from darkness and restored our access to the Father’s promises and blessings.

Seventh Prayer Watch
The secret place, dominion, redemption, and shining light
At midday, seek the Lord and dwell under the shadow of the Almighty. Exercise God-given dominion, pray against temptation and every trap of the enemy, and ask that your life shine brightly so others see your good works and glorify God.

Eighth Prayer Watch
Covenant, deliverance, victory, and transforming history
This watch remembers Christ’s death on the Cross and His triumph over hell, death, and the grave. Die to self, rejoice in the Blood Covenant, pray for deliverance, and surrender as an instrument of God’s purposes while He completes His good work in you.
